Canines, Competitions, Companionship

whippetAs it states on the main page of this site, my name is Mary Magee and I share my life with Michael White, a few Whippets and Chinese Cresteds in Indiana. As a child, I grew up in the country, with cattle in the fields around our home, skipping rocks, climbing trees and enjoying animal companionship.

While raising my sons (mostly in Mooresville, Indiana) we had animals ranging from cats, dogs, mice/rats, snakes, lizards, birds, oh and there was a prairie dog, and a spiny back mouse! We even had a rabbit who had babies which we raised (the pet store I bought her at said she was a he, and "he" had 7 babies the next morning). Both of my sons have always been very gentle with animals, even as toddlers, and my grand children are also.

As to my work aspect of life ... I am a freelance graphic designer who, for 10 years, published the Whippet Watch magazine and I also make and sell martingale (hound) dog collars and leashes. I work hard to stay informed on all health related issues of both breeds, and I work toward rock solid temperaments with my hobby breeding, and constantly educate myself on canine nutrition and the advantages of probiotics like Fastrack.

Where it all started

Enriching my life

Funny how one puppy can totally change one woman's life, but that is exactly what Gabe did!

Gabe was my Valentine's Day present in 1994, and I know how blessed I was to have had him in my life for 13 1/2 years. He taught so much to both my sons and me. He truly was beyond compare. (d Beisinger photo). With Gabe, I started racing and enjoying dog shows. Although he was strictly a pet quality pup, he had so much heart that anything I wanted him to do, he did with total dedication. He got me hooked, big time!

A few months after he came into my life I obtained his sister, Tara. She was my queeny girl. I worked hard at learning how to show and after about 2 years I finally went in the ring with her myself instead of sitting on the sideline and watching her breeder Kenna Hodges show her for me. She was such a blessing and also taught me much, including patience and that even if others don't like you, it doesn't matter as long as those you love accept you for who you are. I was a very lucky woman to have had her in my life.

As the old saying goes ... it's all history from there. I added Gennie a few months later and bred my first litter when Tara was 4 1/2 years old. I felt I needed at least that much time to learn all I could. I studied pedigrees, read books, magazines and went to as many events as possible (pretty much every weekend!) and finally I was ready. My first litter was sired by Ch/UCh/CanCh Sonseeahray's Fiat Design, SC who was owned by Mary Alderman of Jaama Whippets. And then there was PhaseYa, my princess P. And so it goes ...

chinese crestedIn 2006 I had the first Chinese Crested puppy in my home for several months (his owner lived with us at the time) and I was hooked. I'd enjoyed the breed from afar but after IggyPop I knew I would eventually add the breed to my home and life.

In 2008 I did just that! Possum (affectionally titled "Lil' Queenie") came to live with me and she was a total joy! Crested girls are just simply FUN! Possum later returned to her previous owner at her request and then later rehomed into a companion home. Her son, Biggie Smalls (UCh SaeSi Equiss Notorious B.I.G.), has remained here to continue his show career.

It's funny how life takes twists and turns. In 2011 Michael had no idea what he was getting himself into when we first started talking and then seeing one another. He was always a dog lover and had them throughout his life but never a "pack" before. He enjoys the dogs, loves the racing and now is the proud owner of one of the males from the litter out of Strut. Seeing the two of them together is heartwarming! My life, and that of my dogs', has been truly blessed with his love, support and patience.

After filling out the interview form, please take the time to read through the contract for our companion puppies click here for the companion puppy contract. Competition puppies are sold on a private contract which we will share via private email if requested.

Please understand from the start that I do not sell any dogs outright without a co-ownership, nor do I sell pups without home checks. This is all done to protect the dogs I am fortunate enough to produce. However, if the dog is a companion which will be spayed or neutered, I will happily sign off the ownership once the sterilization is completed (after 13 months of age, allowing the growth plates to close and lowering the risk of bone cancer) and I receive vet paperwork stating as such.
